7 easy tips to make candles last longer

Candles have a magical way of creating a cozy and serene atmosphere - and, they smell amazing! To make your new candle last longer, try these easy and simple tips.

  1. Opt for high-quality candles made from natural materials like soy wax or beeswax; These materials tend to burn more slower and cleanly, offering a longer and more eco-friendly burn.

  2. Shape and size also plays a big part; Smaller, narrower candles tend to burn more efficiently, allowing you to savor their glow for an extended period.

  3. Keep candles away from drafts; Position your candle away from drafts, as they can cause uneven burning and shorten the lifespan of the candle.

  4. Keep your candle on a heat-resistant surface or a candle holder; This will help protect your furniture from heat damage and ensure safe burning.

  5. Trimming the wick is essential; Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to approximately ¼ inch (0.6 cm) in length. This helps to control the size of the flame and prevents excessive soot or mushrooming.

  6. When you first light your candle, allow it to burn until the entire surface becomes a pool of melted wax; This is called the "memory burn," which helps set the candle's burn pattern and prevents tunneling, where the candle burns down the center, leaving a rim of unused wax. Aim for a burn time of 1 hour per inch (2.5 cm) in diameter to achieve an optimal melt pool.

  7. Use a candle snuffer or gently dip the wick into the melted wax instead of blowing out the candle; The way you extinguish your candle plays a role in preserving its life, so avoid blowing out the flame, as it can create smoke and cause the wick to smolder, resulting in soot buildup.
